What Is Flicks On Tap?

Flicks On Tap is a one-night micro festival focused entirely on the experience of watching short films with a live audience. It pairs a tightly curated lineup of short films with a casual pub setting to create an event that feels more like a shared night out than a traditional film festival.

This is not a conference, a panel series, or a marathon screening. Flicks On Tap is designed to move. Films are presented in curated blocks with intention and pacing, keeping the audience engaged from the first screening to the last.

By removing the formality of a theater setting, Flicks On Tap creates a space where films land immediately and reactions are real—laughter, silence, surprise, and conversation all happen in the room together.

Tickets

Your ticket grants entry to the full Flicks On Tap experience, including all film blocks for the evening. Seating is general and available on a first come, first sit basis. Arriving early is strongly recommended.

1 complimentary beverage ticket will be provided at the door to be used on a drink selection from the designated event menu; a full cash bar is also available for additional orders.

Tickets are $30. Tickets are non-refundable, but fully transferable if you’re unable to attend. This is a rain or snow event. In the unlikely case of a major weather event requiring rescheduling, tickets will be honored for the new date.

Film Blocks & Event Flow

Filmmaker Corner Q & A

Flicks On Tap is structured into two curated blocks of short films, approximately 90-minutes each, designed to keep the night moving while giving each film the attention it deserves.

Each block features a carefully selected lineup of short films programmed for pacing, variety, and audience engagement. The goal is a continuous viewing experience that feels intentional from start to finish, rather than a stop-and-start screening.

Between the two film blocks, there will be a 15-minute intermission, allowing attendees time to refresh drinks, stretch, and reset before the second half of the program begins.

Filmmakers Corner

Following the conclusion of the second film block, Flicks On Tap transitions into the Filmmakers Corner—a moderated question-and-answer session with filmmakers in attendance.

This informal, audience-driven conversation focuses on the films screened that evening. Filmmakers are invited to discuss their work, creative process, and production choices, while attendees have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly.

Participation is optional, and the Q&A is designed to be concise and respectful of time, ensuring a strong close to the night without overstaying its welcome.

Awards

Flicks On Tap recognizes standout work with two awards presented at the end of the event.

Audience Choice Award
Attendees will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for their favorite short film of the night. The film receiving the most votes will be awarded the Audience Choice Award.

Jury Award
A separate Jury Award will be presented to a selected film based on overall excellence, storytelling, and craft, as determined by a small panel.

Venue: Cara Irish Pub

Cara Irish Pub logoFlicks On Tap takes place at Cara Irish Pub, a well-established gathering spot in downtown Dover, New Hampshire. The name “Cara” means “friend” in Irish, and the pub reflects that spirit through a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere grounded in the tradition of a classic Irish pub.

The event is held in Cara’s private upstairs event space, offering a dedicated room for screenings while still maintaining the relaxed, social character of the pub. Guests can settle in for the full program, with servers circulating throughout the event to provide food and beverage service.

A full bar will be available in the venue room, along with an event menu offering food and a selection of curated cocktails designed specifically for the evening. This setup allows guests to enjoy the films without leaving the space or interrupting the flow of the event.

For filmmakers

This is a curated screening, not an open mic. We program films that play well with a live audience—strong starts, clear swings, real payoffs.
